There are post-it notes all over my desk with reminders to get people different British things, which feels kind of final and silly. Though my departure is four days away, I started packing tonight because packing to go home feels good. Prepare yourself for an introspective post! The apartment I thought would work out did not, as the woman failed to mention the 10-year old child also living...

Long time no update! Not much exciting stuff has been going on, thus the lack of entries. My mom and Larry are back in the States. I saw Iron Man 2 last night. My sleep schedule has been almost entirely reversed. This morning I was on Skype until past sunrise. Since there isn’t any sun or light or joy in London, past sunrise looks a lot like before sunrise. I spent most of this disgustingly...

Many apologies for the lack of photos this week - I’ve been tourist-ing it up at locations I’ve previously been to, so carrying around my extremely heavy camera feels unnecessary. It’s been fun introducing my mom and Larry to London. Kind of makes me appreciate the city like I did before I came to live here…but I still absolutely can’t wait to get back to NYC in two...

Drunken man on the bus to first girl, second girl, then me: “Gorgeous…rather gorgeous…extremely gorgeous!” Alright, London. You can be alright. You have your good moments. Drunken moments, yes, but good moments nonetheless. I started out this evening feeling a huge amount of anxiety and having absolutely no desire to attend my own co-birthday party. The anxiety...

It’s a little hard to focus on the beauty and tranquility of Venice when I’m spending so much time trying to figure out how the crap to get back to London. After waiting four hours in line at the train station, I have tickets bringing me as far as Brussels, but the connection from Zürich to Brussels is up in the air because it is reservationless. I may arrive in Zürich to find that I...

Why have I never been on a pub crawl until last night?! Venice may not be known for pubs, but it IS known for bridges, and when you take a shot every time you cross a bridge…life gets interesting. I made a new best friend in Venice. I don’t really remember his name, but he was a Bangladeshi rose seller and after we talked about how great New York is and whether or not I like “the...

Bad news bears: something appears to have broken in my camera. It takes photos, it stores them on the CF cards, it has the ability to figure out whether or not there is a CF card there, but it cannot transfer photos from the CF card to my computer. Somewhere something is wrong, so tomorrow I’ll buy a card reader (if I can find one) and photo posts will resume. Hopefully. Otherwise…I...

The Food Thief has been kicked out of QMUL housing. Security is pretty legit here, apparently, though I’m not sure it was just the multiple reports of theft from me and Javi that got him kicked out. I feel a little bad if I’m responsible…but he was the worst. Karma got him. Good riddance. I can store Ben & Jerry’s in the freezer without waking up instantly at the sound...

Dublin never happened, unfortunately. Long stupid story short, Dehui was unable to board the plane because RyanAir requires some stupid stamp that I was told to get but she was not told about. Our one option was to pay £100 each to rebook our flight for a flight that would get us to Dublin around midnight. Uhm, no. We got no money back and had to pay £3 to print out a re-booked bus ticket to get...

My syntax class is like being in high school all over again, and my god, I never ever want to go back to high school. I sat with the pompous French kids today, next to the guy who kind of looks like a cracked out Johnny Depp. They sit sullenly all class and say nothing. Halfway through a complicated lesson, a girl in the back who had been talking the entire time finally said to the professor that...

I MISS NEW YORK! But London has improved. I’ve noticed that if I look above the fried chicken places to the actual facade of the buildings around here, it’s not quite as hideous. In fact, there are some very pretty buildings. And the New Globe Pub has a big globe on the roof. I guess rain has prevented me from ever looking up. The weather isn’t quite as nice as it is in NYC...

It took me the same amount of time to get from Gatwick Airport to the East End of London as it did to get from Athens to London. I flew over parts of five countries in the same time as it took to traverse maybe 35 miles by bus. Didn’t sleep the entire flight because I was surrounded by obnoxious 20-something Greek chicks who did. not. shut. up. once. Holy crap they were obnoxious and the...

The sun was shining spitefully as I departed this afternoon for Athens. London knows when I’m leaving and it makes sure all the good weather happens while I’m gone. Really. Stupid London. After about 2.5 hours of sleep, a London metro, a London bus, another London bus, a plane, a Greek bus, and a Greek metro, I arrived at my hostel and found Reb at the front desk talking to the guy in...
